Nicholas Pooran Blitzkrieg Steals The Final MLC Show
Nicholas Pooran’s 55 balls 137 has concluded the first season of MLC on a high note. He displayed an exceptional performance with the bat, leading MI New York to victory in the inaugural Major League Cricket final. Scoring an impressive 137 runs from 55 balls, the wicketkeeper-batter played a key role in their seven-wicket win over Seattle Orcas at Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas.
After restricting Seattle Orcas to 183/9, MI New York efficiently chased down the target in only 16 overs. Although they had a shaky start, Pooran showed his determination by hitting consecutive sixes off Imad Wasim’s bowling in the opening over, and he continued his outstanding form by striking three more sixes and two boundaries in the third over against Dwaine Pretorius.
Shayan Jahangir, the opening batter, was dismissed by Wayne Parnell in the fifth over, but Pooran kept scoring big hits on the other side. He smashed three sixes off Andrew Tye’s bowling, propelling MI New York’s score to 80/2 in just 6 overs.
Throughout his innings, Pooran consistently found the sweet spot of his bat, hitting an impressive total of 10 fours and 13 sixes. Nicholas Pooran’s 55 balls 137 single-handedly led MI New York to victory, finishing the match with 4 overs to spare.
Earlier in the day, MI New York won the toss and chose to field first, sending Seattle Orcas to bat. Quinton de Kock showed great form, hitting consecutive boundaries off Jessy Singh in the second over. However, Rashid Khan dismissed De Kock’s opening partner, Nauman Anwar, after he scored 9 runs off 13 balls in the fifth over.
Then, Shehan Jayasuriya provided valuable support to De Kock, smashing a four and a six off David Wiese in the seventh over. But, in the tenth over, Steven Taylor bowled him out for 16 runs off 15 balls.
After Heinrich Klaasen’s early dismissal, De Kock and Shubham Ranjane formed an outstanding partnership, adding 51 runs off 24 balls, which brought Orcas’ score to 142/4 in 16.1 overs. Despite this promising start, Orcas began losing wickets at consistent intervals.
However, Dwaine Pretorius played a quick cameo, scoring 21 runs from just 7 balls, contributing significantly to his team’s impressive total on the scoreboard.
In the end, runs posted by Seattle Orcas proved too short. It was one man show throughout the second innings; the Nicholas Pooran show. Nicholas Pooran brought his ton in 40 balls which is third fast after Chris Gayle’s 30 balls 100 in IPL and Jonathan Charles’ 39 balls 100 against South Africa in April in this year.
Pooran & Boult Leave Everlasting Impression On MLC
Pooran, who stood in as New York’s captain in place of the injured Kieron Pollard, emerged as the top run-scorer in MLC with an impressive total of 388 runs at an average of 64.66, surpassing De Kock’s 264 runs at 44. Reflecting on his performance, Pooran mentioned that he focused on batting like his own style, not trying to emulate the captain’s approach.
With 61 ODIs and 75 T20 internationals for West Indies under his belt, Pooran backed his skills and took advantage of the platform and opportunity in the final. His brave approach paid off. New Zealander Boult secured the position of the tournament’s leading wicket-taker, taking an outstanding 22 wickets at an average of 10.36.
USA international Cameron Gannon, whocontributed significantly for Seattle, claimed the title of the second-highest wicket-taker in MLC with 11 wickets at 17.36, and he was recognized as the domestic player of the tournament.
