Now the UFC is reportedly exploring the possibility of finding a replacement for McGregor in the highly anticipated main event bout. The Irishman is looking for a comeback since breaking his leg in 2021 in a fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264.
UFC abruptly canceled the press conference event without citing any specific reasons. McGregor addressed the situation and apologized to his fans all around the world for this inconvenience. However, rumors of the clash being canceled intensified after ESPN reportedly removed promotional material for the bout and the UFC later removed McGregor’s free fights from YouTube.

MMA Journalist Ariel Helwani commented on the situation and revealed that there is no news at the moment and expectation is still that the fight will go on, there is positivity. However, he also wrote, “They have sent out feelers to see who might be able to fill in, either as a replacement or an entirely new fight at the top of the bill. It’s still developing and there’s still some time.”
McGregor was seen partying just weeks before his return fight
The uncertainty surrounding McGregor’s participation has further fueled speculation, while the highly anticipated event has already set a UFC record for the biggest live gate with $20 million. Even the tickets for the UFC 303 press conference were sold out in under nine minutes, highlighting the demand to see “The Notorious” make his UFC octagon return. During his UFC hiatus, McGregor participated in a number of ventures outside the Octagon and also became the co-owner of the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship.
